Badhaai Ho: Did viewers like the taboo challenging film?

Badhaai Ho released in cinemas yesterday and this unusual family comedy-drama has welcomed mixed reviews from viewers all over the country. With a very intriguing trailer that released a month ago, the film was expected to be yet another one of the taboo breaking ventures by Ayushmann Khurrana.
The film centres around the middle class Kaushik Parivaar who live in Lodhi Colony, Delhi. The set up isn’t that of a proper middle class society. Perfect with ‘Maya ka Jagrata’ songs, housewives playing housing or bingo, uncles dancing to 90’s tunes and more.
Everything is hale and hearty until Priyamvada (Neena Gupta) the male lead Ayushmann’ character Nakul’s mother announces her pregnancy at week 19. Nakul who is of marriageable age himself is obviously shocked like everyone else who hears of the news and has a hard time coming to terms with the peculiar idea of having an infant sin king at his age.
This subconsciously also then affects his own love life with girlfriend Renee (Sanya Malhotra) and their relationship faces many turns till Nakul has regained his senses and accepted his mum’s circumstance as is.
The basic plot of the film is how the society and family accept this bizarre pregnancy breaking the societal barriers and norms.
IMDb gave this movie a rating of 8.7/10. Interviewed viewers had sort of mixed Jews for the film. While some thoroughly enjoyed the running minutes from beginning to end, some had interest issues with the first half stating it to be a little airy and boring. It is said to be a good movie with a remarkable addressing topic, which has just been stretched a bit far than it should play. Though majority of the audiences have loved the movie and it’s plot and circumstance.
With already taking in 18.98 crores on its second day of release, this movie is on a winning streak. We wish it all the success!
