5 summer essentials that’ll help you beat the heat and keep the cool going

Extreme heat and humidity make you susceptible to oily and greasy skin, excessive sweating and frizzy hair. Small alterations to your daily skincare regime go a long way. Here are some tips and advice on how to stay happy and hydrated this summer.
Don’t forget to moisturize:
For the summer months look for omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E in your moisturizer. Dryness is a sign of omega-3 deficiency, while vitamin E helps reduce damage from pollution and protects against sun damage. Choose moisturizers that are gel-based or have a light consistency. Tackle acne-prone skin with rosehip and hazelnut oil. If you have sensitive or oily skin, try tea tree oil it has bacteria-fighting properties, controls excess oil and soothes skin.
Keep your skin clear:
If you are acne-prone, be cautious. Compared to women, men have oilier skin, so it’s better for you to use a stronger face wash. Women also have more sensitive skin and have to balance acne zapping with skin preservation. Avoid the use of different face products at the same time as too much manipulation of the skin can lead to marks and zits.
Stay hydrated:
Dehydration takes a toll on your skin health. Sip on lemonade and coconut water. Electrolytes present in these help your body absorb water better than plain water. Always carry a water bottle, and if you have a desk job, always keep one at your desk. Studies show that people instantly feel more alert after drinking H2O. It’s a simple, healthy way to snap out of a midday slump.
Always use a sunblock:
Sunburns weaken your skin, subjecting it more to bruises. Your skin may suffer repeated attacks of peeling, swelling, redness, hives, and itching. And, this comes from the influence of UVB rays. Sunscreens act as a shield against the harmful UV rays which penetrates every time your skin is exposed to the sun. It is therefore advisable to use sunscreen every day. You may not notice the benefits now, but the advantage of using sunscreen is felt in the long run. If you are out in the sun for a long time either working or enjoying a sunbath on the beach, it is better to reapply sunscreen after every two hours to protect your skin from sunburns.
Protect your hair:
Our hair suffers a lot during the summer. Constant heat, sun damage, and chlorine takes a toll on our hair and can leave it feeling limp and dull after the holidays. Try a clarifying shampoo to remove the chlorine and any excess product or sun cream, before using a conditioning treatment to add moisture back in. If you can, avoid heat styling.
So it’s just as important to look after ourselves in the warmer weather as we do in the winters. Lucky for you, we’ve put together the top five tips for staying happy and healthy this summer – keep these on your radar and enjoy your holidays guilt-free…
