From tears to smiles, ‘Dil Bechara’ makes us experience it all!

Can a film be an augury? A character in ‘Dil Bechara’, talking about the emptiness caused by a loved one’s death, brings the word suicide in your mind, and you freeze. Because it’s been just over a month, and many of us are still struggling to make sense of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by suicide. This wonderfully presented movie has sadly turned out to be the last, of the film’s leading man. Here’s how the movie had everyone teary-eyed.
‘Dil Bechara‘ is adapted from John Green’s ‘The Fault In Our Stars‘, which is a Young Adult romance about two young people in very challenging circumstances. Those who have read the book, and seen the movie, know exactly what happens. Plot-wise, there are no surprises in ‘Dil Bechara‘. We know that Kizie Basu and Immanuel Rajkumar Junior aka Manny will forever be star-crossed. Both have cancer, she of the thyroid, and he of bone; both have experienced the disease for long years; both know just how fragile their lives are.

A life-threatening disease plus sparkling young lives plus romance is a ready-made recipe for winsome smiles. The characters of the ‘very filmi‘ Manny and the ‘sweet introvert’ Kizie, who adores an obscure singer named ‘Abhimanyu Veer’, are very well defined. Manny is much older than Kizie, and the film makes a slight spike at its explanation and then forgets about it; the ‘film-within-a-film’ thread is more laughable than anything else. It is the occasional sweetness that Rajput and Sanghi manage to rustle up that carries the film.
Not even 12 hours to the movie’s release and the fan love poured at different social media platforms. From Twitter to Instagram, fans showcased their take on the movie.

It might be difficult for many of us to actually have been able to look at the film. But not to miss, this is the last time we could ever see Sushant and his ‘larger than life’ smile on-screen. Dil Bechara is not just a film. It is an elegy, and a relief at the same time. You see Sushant, and the film diminishes, and you want to reach out and freeze the frame. He was there, and he isn’t here. When, in the movie, Manny dies he leaves Kizie to lead her life with his memories and the mantra,
“Janam kab lena hai aur marna kab hai, hum decide nahin kar sakte. Par jeena kaise hai, woh hum decide kar sakte hain”.
And these lines really got us. Sushant once again unknowingly gave all of us hope and the way to lead our lives.
All our words and a rating can definitely not do any justice to the kind of work Sushant has done in his life. And no matter how hard it is, everyone should watch the film to show their love for the lost shooting star.
We miss you, Sushant!
