10 Things Every Middle Class 90’s Kid Will Relate To!

The decade of 90s was by far the best one to grow up. Well, see for yourself, 90s kids got to enjoy the most simplest of pleasures, also got to witness the advancement in technology, got to be a part of TWO CENTURIES and hey, they are not even 30 yet.
And also, if you’re a 90s kid, you would completely relate to it if I say that yeah it’s good to swipe through the pictures on your mobile screen but the pleasure you got from flipping through the pages of your photo album is just incomparable.
So now this one’s for you. Sit back, scroll down, take a dive into your glorious plast, and reminisce on all those things once again which made your childhood pretty awesome.
Here you go!
1. Getting your hands on the magic pencil
Every 90s kid either must have bought this or at least thought once of laying his hands on this magical “Shaka Laka Boom Boom” pencil. Indeed, the show had won our innocent minds at that time.
2. 10 people in one car?
Well, India is a country known for its ‘jugaad’. And in the 90s there were very few people who owned a car. And those few people would have a lot of relatives, literally a lot. So, everybody would just cram into those cars and go out. So someone sat on your lap, and then someone else sat in that someone’s lap. If there was still space, you fitted in a kid. You had to get your spine realigned after one of those visits but they were SO much fun!
3. When Power Cuts were fun!
Once there was a time when generators, invertors and 24- hours electricity backups did not exist. And unlike now, when power cuts mean sweat and mosquitoes, this used to be a happy time which meant all play and no studies. And hey, majority of us have been those kids who shouted “Light aa gayi” when it was back. 😀
4. The innocent rhymes and the fun games
The 90’s was a time when Clash of Clans, Pokemon Go and Netflix did not exist. And kids actually went out and play rather than staying at home glued to their mobile phones or tablets. Who can ever forget running across the streets of their neighborhood and playing Oonch Neech ka Paapda, Posham Pa, Aankh-micholi, Ring-a-ring-o-roses!
5. Candy Cigarettes
Well, admit it, we all have tried to feel cool by hanging one of those chalky sticks out of our mouths.
6. When birthdays weren’t all about throwing lavish parties
It would be that one special day of the year when everybody would come in their regular school uniforms but you would be the only one exempted from it. You would pick up the nicest of outfits, get dressed up like a prince/princess and head to school with utnost happiness. Your eyes would sparkle like anything when you would hand over candies to everyone.
7. Banta Soda
This one used be a hands-on thirst quencher whenever you would head to home full of sweat after a hot summer day. Pushing the marble down and hearing that satisfying whoosh of the CO2 escaping was just another level pleasing experience.
8. Summer Holidays
Nobody went to Thailand. Nobody did Dubai. And in Switzerland? Only Yash Chopra took his stars there. Instead, people went to visit relatives during the summers. Shimla and Manali used to be the height of thinking big in terms of destination and a Goa trip would have sufficed for five summers. Instead, a visit to mamaji’s or buaji’s house in Ludhiana or Nagpur was what you got. Perhaps, there were unlucky souls as well whose mamaji and buaji lived in the same city.
9. Some songs and tunes which left an everlasting impression
You can never get the tunes of “Washing Powder Nirmaa” and “Ghadi” out of your heads.
And you are playing it all over. Gotcha!
10. Some characters just left their imprints on our brains
You saw them almost every day, and you will never forget them anyway.
